Tennessee Travel Guide

If you’re a music lover, Tennessee is the place to be. Nashville, otherwise known as the Country Music Capital of the World, is particularly legendary. You’ll definitely want to pay a visit to the famous honky tonks where you can catch live music all day, every day. If blues is more your style, head to Beale Street in Memphis, and don’t miss a chance to tour Graceland or try some Memphis barbecue while you’re there.

Beyond the lights and sounds of Tennessee’s famous music bars, the state also boasts the stunning Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This breathtaking swath of lush forests and hazy blue mountain ridges straddles the border between Tennessee and North Carolina. Along with jaw-dropping vistas, Great Smoky Mountains National Park also hosts a portion of the Appalachian Trail and some of the best fall colors in the country.

Best Time to Visit

SUMMER
Summers are hot and humid in Tennessee. Despite the stifling heat, June through August is also peak tourist season in cities like Nashville and Memphis, so expect crowds and higher prices.

AUTUMN
Late September through November is a great time to visit Tennessee. Temperatures cool off and fall colors usually peak in late October throughout the state. Leaf peepers flock to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which sees its most visitors in October.

WINTER
December through February can get downright chilly in Tennessee. Snow in non-mountainous regions isn’t common, but it does happen occasionally. This is a great time to visit for budget travelers who also want to avoid crowds.

SPRING
This is an excellent time to visit for comfortable weather and before the summer crowds set in. March can still be chilly, but April through early May is the sweet spot when the flowers are in bloom and temperatures are nearly perfect.
