Hi Friend, I’m Erin.

Meet Erin - The Awayist

I say hello to every dog I see, my most commonly used phrase is “I’m hungry”, and my Google search history is filled with places I haven’t been to yet.

In a nutshell: I’m a dog-loving, pasta-eating, Midwest native who’s obsessed with exploring new places. I used to think that corporate life excluded me from frequent travel, but now I’ve mastered the art of coupling meaningful, immersive travel experiences with limited vacation days.

I want to go to as many places as I can, and I want to feel like I’ve experienced each place on an authentic level.

I’m equally as enthralled with remote landscapes as I am with bustling cities, I’m particularly fond of discovering areas through the local cuisine, and I vehemently avoid man-made attractions that were specifically created to draw-in tourists (World’s Largest Ball of Yarn, I’m looking at you).
For most of my life, I operated under the widely accepted delusion that travel is an activity reserved for either the rich or the vagabond backpackers. But here’s a not-so-secret secret: that’s just not true. You don’t have to be wealthy to be well-traveled. You also don’t have to sell all of your stuff and become a nomad.

I spent far too long discouraged by the idea that someone like me, a middle-class girl with a full-time job, didn’t have the time nor the means to really get out there.

One of the most empowering revelations I’ve come by was discovering that the secret to experiencing the world is, often, simply prioritizing exploration.

I’m here to share that empowerment with you…

…to inspire you to explore what our planet has to offer, to encourage you to seek fulfilling experiences wherever you are, and to share with you all of the tips, guides, and tools I possess that can give you the confidence to plan your next adventure.

Currently…

I live in Minneapolis with my favorite human (who also happens to be my husband), Joe, and our two rescue dogs, Seamus and Ginny. At this very moment, I’m likely doing one of the following:
  • Cozying up inside with a book and a candle.
  • Sipping a drink outside with Joe and the dogs.
  • Trying a new restaurant with my mom.
  • Dancing unabashedly at a Mik Cool live show (catch my husband playing keys).
  • Perusing Google Flights and dreaming up my next adventure.
