Maine Travel Guide

Maine is the crown jewel of New England. Known for its abundance of lighthouses, fresh lobster, charming coastal towns, and stunning scenery, Maine is an idyllic vacation spot throughout the summer and fall seasons. Maine’s state slogan is, “The way life should be,” and one visit here will have you nodding in agreement.

Maine is full of bucket list experiences.

Try a lobster roll made from the freshest daily catch. Hike the trails in the Northeast’s only National Park where you can also witness the first sunrise in the country. Stroll around quaint seaside towns like Camden, or take a scenic autumn drive to see some of the country’s best displays of fall colors. In the historic city of Portland, you’ll love exploring the cobblestone streets and sampling the incredible food before heading over to the most photographed lighthouse in the world.

Best Time to Visit

SUMMER
The weather in Maine is nearly perfect in the summer, and lobster shacks are in full swing. This is peak tourist season, so expect crowds, traffic, and to pay a premium for lodging and flights.

AUTUMN
There’s just nothing quite like Maine in the fall. The weather is pleasant, and fall colors throughout Maine and New England are unlike anywhere else in the country. This is another peak time for tourists, but a visit in early September before the leaves turn can help you avoid the crowds.

WINTER
November through February is cold in Maine, and lobster shacks are closed for the season. That being said, the snowy winter days make for some lovely scenery, and prices for your trip will drop significantly in the winter months.

SPRING
With chilly temps and plenty of rain, March and April aren’t the best time to travel to Maine. A visit during the last few weeks of May can be an excellent way to avoid crowds with warmer weather, but this is also black fly season in Maine.
